Georgia Department of Labor Conference: Pre-conference workshop

Title of Presentation: Innovative Training Techniques: Enhancing Training Across the Generational Divide

Summary: Join us for a day long, interactive workshop that will provide you with the tools and resources needed to train young workers on working safe. Younger workers (those aged 15-24 years) represent only 14 percent of the U.S. labor force, but are over-represented in dangerous jobs, including construction, transportation, agriculture and mining.  In 2009, young employees were treated for work-related injuries in hospital emergency departments at a rate twice that of older workers. Effective training of these individuals is essential to controlling worksite injury and illness rates. This interactive, hands-on course will cover young worker injuries and illnesses, identification of workplace hazards, methods to control hazards, and young worker rights and responsibilities. Participants in this class will receive the lesson plans, handouts, and PowerPoint presentations needed to train young workers. Even though this session focuses on training younger workers, this session will provide innovative techniques that can enhance and enliven your existing training programs for all ages.
